Job Description

Position Summary

Reporting to the Spiritual Life Lead, the Chaplain provides spiritual guidance to the tenants and residents residing at Radiant Care Pleasant Manor.

Qualifications and Skills Required

COMMITMENT AND DEMONSTRATION OF FAITH

  • Committed to supporting the Confession of Faith of the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, Radiant Care’s vision, mission statement, and core values
  • Acknowledge and declare that, by their life, they demonstrate their commitment to Christ.

SKILL

  • Education
    • Completion of a University Degree in Theology
    • Completed 1 unit of CPE.
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 3 years, but less than 5 years 

EFFORT

  • Problem Solving
    •         Decisions involve interpreting and weighing alternative/ difference factors; problems may be somewhat less routine.  Typically involves a choice of independent action or judgement. May have minor input to the development of new programs and/or services.

RESPONSIBILITY

  •   Knowledge and skills in handling face-to-face interaction with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
  •         Able to converse with and connect with people from a variety of cultural and religious/spiritual backgrounds
  •         Pastoral experience and good working knowledge and understanding of the Bible
  •         Ability to speak in front of large groups of people
  •         Education in counselling and or relevant pastoral training
  •         Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  •         Cultural sensitivity to the German/Mennonite heritage
  •         Excellent organization and time management skills
  •         By their life demonstrates their commitment to Christ and their local church
  •         Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  •         Current (within 6 months) Vulnerable Position/ Sector Screening (VPS)
  •         Legally entitled to work in Canada
  •         Training and experience in Care for Aging, Alzheimer’s and Dementia
  •         End-of-Life training
  •   Knowledge of Montessori Philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Is supportive of the Christian philosophy, mission statement and philosophy of care of Radiant Care Pleasant Manor
  • Maintains and upholds a spirit of cooperation with other departments and department heads, to ensure the needs of the tenants\residents are met.
  • Maintains confidentiality in all resident/tenant and Radiant Care Pleasant Manor affairs.
  • Participates in committee meetings as required, (e.g., Health and Safety, Quality Assurance, etc.)
  • Actively participates in planning and carrying out corporate events and activities that may fall outside of regular working hours, (e.g., Family Picnic, Staff Appreciation, Memorial Service, Family Night, Residents/Tenants Banquets, etc.)
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures regarding Quality Assurance, Health and Safety, Infection Control, etc.
  • Assists in developing departmental policies and procedures
  • Implement policies and established standards as set out by relevant and pertinent legislative bodies (e.g., College of Nurses, Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Health and Safety Act, etc.)
  • Where directly applicable, participates in multidisciplinary care planning for tenants/residents
  • Assists in planning of annual budget preparation and control as it pertains to departmental needs and requirements. Prepares and submits any requests for capital expenditures to the Director at the beginning of the fourth quarter of every year
  • Consults and works cooperatively with inspectors, compliance advisors, and other external authorities in relation to tenant/resident care needs
  • Attends seminars, courses, conventions in consultation with the Director
  • Maintains and upholds all tenant/resident rights and maintains exemplary relations with all tenants/residents
  • Maintains records, reports, statistics, etc., in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
  • Knowledge of and promotes the homes Montessori Philosophy of Care
  • Understand and comply with all policies and procedures set out by Radiant Care
  • Participate in annual goal setting; creating and attaining goals that are aligned with the Organization’s current Strategic Plan
  • Keep up-to-date, comply and enforce applicable legislation (Long-term-care Act, AODA, Resident’s Rights, OH&S Act and Regulations, etc.)
  • Understand and adhere to the Collective Agreement, when applicable
  • Complete all Mandatory Training assigned by the Radiant Care
  • Other duties, as assigned by Supervisor
